Turkish districts Vezirköprü and Nazilli pursue provincial status

Residents and local officials in the Turkish districts of Vezirköprü and Nazilli are intensifying efforts to achieve provincial status.

In Vezirköprü, located in Samsun, discussions regarding the transition to a province have gained momentum following statements by Devlet Bahçeli. The district, which has a population of approximately 87,575, is the third largest in Samsun by population outside the central districts. Local residents expressed hope that the move would transform the district's future, noting its historical significance, including the Oymaağaç Höyük site and the Şahinkaya Canyon.

In Nazilli, Mayor Dr. Ertuğrul Tetik met with local neighborhood heads (muhtars) to strengthen the district's long-standing demand for provincial status, a goal the area has pursued since 1937. The meeting focused on the collective nature of the demand, emphasizing that the transition should be supported by all neighborhoods, civil society organizations, and local businesses to bolster the district's economic and social development.
