Turkish Education Minister Yusuf Tekin Announces 750,000 Classrooms Nationwide

Education Minister Yusuf Tekin said Turkey’s classroom stock has risen from about 350,000 in 2002 to roughly 750,000 for the 2025‑2026 academic year, highlighting the government’s emphasis on expanding educational infrastructure. He noted that teacher numbers have more than doubled since 2002, reducing student‑teacher ratios to 16 in primary schools, 12 in middle schools and 9 in high schools.

During visits to Denizli and Erzincan, Tekin cited a 17 billion‑lira investment in Denizli’s schools, with 9,972 classrooms now operating and ongoing projects for 12 new schools. In Erzincan’s Çayırlı district, he opened the Davut Sulari Community Education Center, stressing new curricula that integrate local cultural heritage and modules for Alevi‑Bektashi communities. The minister framed these measures as part of the “Turkey Century Education Model,” aimed at fostering unity, cultural awareness, and improved learning environments across the country.
