Turkish education officials prohibit illegal school registration fees

Education officials in Turkey have issued strict directives to school administrators regarding the upcoming school enrollment process to prevent illegal financial demands from parents.

In Şanlıurfa, Provincial Director of National Education Hasan Kökrek warned that school administrators must not request any money under the guise of registration fees. Kökrek stated that any official found collecting such payments would be removed from their position, emphasizing that students must have equal access to education without economic burden.

Similarly, in Ağrı, Provincial Director of National Education Abdulhaluk Çakan instructed school principals during a preparatory meeting for the 2026-2027 academic year that no requests for funds should be made to parents under any name. The meeting also addressed school readiness, academic success, student safety, and peer bullying.
