Turkish engaged couple disappears after flight to Tbilisi; Interpol issues red notice

Metehan Arslan Topçu (19) and his fiancée Meryem A. (18) vanished about two months after their engagement in Sakarya, Turkey. The pair left the family home with a car belonging to Metehan’s father, Hüseyin Topçu, and jewellery from the ceremony, parked the vehicle at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport and flew to Tbilisi, Georgia. Since their arrival no further contact has been made.

Turkish authorities, after extensive CCTV and technical investigations, placed a yellow notice and later a red Interpol notice on the couple, expanding the search to 189 countries. The father told reporters, “It’s been 13 months and we have no trace of them,” while the mother expressed growing anguish over the unresolved disappearance.
