Turkish floating power plant Erol Bey departs Cuba

The Turkish floating power plant Erol Bey, which has a capacity of 63 megawatts, departed Cuba on November 2, 2026. The vessel left the Havana bay area at approximately 14:30 local time, according to reports from EFE.

This departure marks the exit of seven out of the eight Turkish floating power plants originally contracted by Cuba from Karadeniz Holding. The Erol Bey was the last of these generating vessels remaining in the country. While it briefly resumed operations in April following the arrival of Russian oil, it had reportedly been inactive for several months due to fuel shortages.

The reduction in floating power capacity comes amid a severe energy crisis in Cuba, characterized by daily blackouts exceeding 20 hours in Havana. Although the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the National Electric Union have not officially confirmed the departure, the exit of these units significantly reduces the total megawatts available to the National Electric System.
