Turkish football faces Konyaspor debt crisis and Süper Lig broadcasting shifts

Turkish football is facing significant financial and structural shifts. Konyaspor is currently struggling with a massive debt crisis, which Saadet Party Konya Provincial Chairman Mehmet Demirel reports has escalated from 200 million lira under Fatih Özgökçen to a record 3.2 billion lira under the current administration of Ömer Atiker. Demirel has called for urgent administrative reforms and emphasized that the club must remain independent from political influence.

Simultaneously, the Turkish Süper Lig is preparing for a major overhaul regarding broadcasting rights. The Clubs Union, dissatisfied with the current annual revenue of $150 million, has set a target of over $500 million for the upcoming tender period. Industry expert Mehmet Arslan suggests there is a 90% chance that the current broadcaster will be replaced as major digital platforms and telecommunications companies prepare to compete for the rights.
