Turkish-German Economic Conference focuses on defense partnership

The 4th Turkish-German Economic Conference was held in Ankara at the TOBB Twin Towers, focusing on the theme of ‘Strategic Partnership in the Changing Defense and Security Architecture.’ The event brought together business leaders, public institutions, and defense industry representatives from both nations.

German Ambassador to Ankara, Sibylle Katharina Sorg, emphasized that a credible European security architecture cannot exist without Turkey. She noted that Turkey and Germany share an interest in shaping this changing security landscape together, particularly given Turkey's central location amidst regional challenges in Ukraine, the Black Sea, the Caucasus, and the Middle East. Sorg suggested that the relationship between the two countries' defense sectors should evolve from a customer-supplier model into a true partnership.

NATO Brigadier General Thomas Lowin also addressed the conference, stating that deterrence requires capability and the aggressive will to use it. He noted that the war in Ukraine demonstrates that new technology alone is insufficient for winning conflicts, highlighting the importance of communication, ammunition, and logistical readiness.
