Turkish Intelligence allegedly uses Greece to smuggle arms into Europe
Reports suggest the Turkish Intelligence Organization (MİT) is orchestrating an industrial-scale operation to flood Europe with Glock-type pistols. According to information from NordicMonitor and former Turkish police chief Mustafa Okumuş, the network aims to equip Turkish mafia groups to create a paramilitary force serving the geopolitical interests of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Greece serves as both a target and a critical transit corridor for this arms trafficking network toward Western Europe. In October 2025, Greek authorities arrested 13 Turkish nationals near Evros who were transporting bags containing 147 pistols, 190 magazines, and various accessories. Notably, Mexican authorities reportedly requested information following the seizure, as the Turkish pistols bore a striking resemblance to weapons used by Mexican drug cartels.
The operation allegedly involves the production of counterfeit weapons in illegal workshops within Turkey. These arms are distributed to criminal organizations in countries including Germany, France, and Sweden, where they have been linked to crime scenes and terrorism. The strategy is described as a means of political blackmail and destabilization, using heavily armed gangs to intimidate or attack political opponents of the Turkish government in Europe.
