Turkish investment fund scandal triggers commission probe and compensation talks

An investigation into investment fund management has surfaced allegations of excessive commissions, with claims that some fund managers received rates as high as 30 percent. The probe is examining the financial relationships between fund managers and market actors, specifically whether portions of profits from certain transactions were diverted to connected individuals while investors faced losses.

In response to the crisis affecting approximately 455,000 savers, the Turkish government is reportedly discussing a graduated payment plan. Discussions involve prioritizing small savers with claims under 1 million lira. Politically, the scandal has intensified, with the YENİ Party alleging that former minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and her spouse obtained significant income through these funds via multiple accounts. The crisis is being treated as a major political and economic issue, with high-level meetings held to determine the method and timing of creditor payments.
