Turkey solves two cold case murders in Kırşehir and Samsun

Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that authorities have solved two long-standing cold case murders in Kırşehir and Samsun. These breakthroughs were achieved through the coordination of the Unsolved Crimes Research Department, local prosecutor's offices, and law enforcement units.

In Kırşehir, a 20-year-old case involving the disappearance of Rıza Güzel in 2006 was reopened. Following investigations into witness statements, conflicting family testimonies, and communication records, authorities conducted raids across three provinces. The operation led to the discovery of bone fragments believed to belong to Güzel and the arrest of two suspects, with one additional person placed under judicial control.

In Samsun, a 13-year-old case involving the 2013 shooting death of Arif Yılmaz was resolved using advanced technological analysis of HTS records and existing evidence. This investigation, which included a re-evaluation of 28 individuals' communication data, resulted in the arrest of two suspects.

Minister Gürlek stated that through these ongoing efforts, the ministry has successfully resolved 60 files involving 67 deceased individuals and 7 injured persons to date.
