Turkish Kidney Foundation warns on school nutrition and hydration
The Turkish Kidney Foundation (TBV) has issued warnings regarding nutrition and hydration habits for children as the new school year begins. The foundation emphasized the critical role school environments play in establishing healthy habits, particularly regarding water consumption.
TBV President Timur Erk stated that children must have easy access to hygienic, healthy, and clean drinking water in schools to protect kidney health. He noted that providing more healthy options in school cafeterias makes it easier for children to make correct nutritional choices.
TBV Vice President Prof. Dr. Aydın Türkmen warned that insufficient fluid intake can lead to fatigue, lack of concentration, and increased risks of urinary tract infections and kidney stones. He noted that children are more susceptible to dehydration than adults due to their higher body water percentage.
