Ekrem İmamoğlu official vehicle trial adjourned to 2027
The trial involving Ekrem İmamoğlu, the detained Mayor of Istanbul, regarding the alleged misuse of official vehicles during his tenure as Mayor of Beylikdüzü, has been adjourned until February 12, 2027. The case involves 12 defendants accused of misconduct for using a vehicle owned by İmamoğlu’s private company as an official municipal vehicle, with fuel and maintenance costs covered by the municipality.
During the hearing, İmamoğlu denied the charges, stating that the vehicle was provided to the municipality at zero rental cost, thereby saving the public approximately 15 million Turkish Liras. The court has ordered a new report from a three-person expert committee to resolve contradictions found in previous expert findings.
In a related development within the broader legal proceedings involving İmamoğlu and 435 other defendants, the court addressed various interim decisions. While travel bans were lifted for 36 non-detained defendants, bans remain in place for 191 others. The court also declined a request to hear former CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as a witness but accepted a request to investigate Murat Ongun, an advisor to İmamoğlu.
