Turkey condemns Israeli strikes in Syria and rhetoric targeting Erdoğan
Turkish political leaders and government institutions have issued strong condemnations following Israeli military strikes on the Abu Zuhur Military Air Base in Syria and subsequent diplomatic rhetoric.
Ankara's Presidency Directorate of Communications criticized the Israeli Prime Minister's Office for targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with statements it described as lacking political seriousness and being an attempt to evade accountability for actions in Gaza. The Directorate characterized the Israeli government's rhetoric as 'cheap politics' aimed at domestic electoral gains.
Political figures across the spectrum joined the rebuke. MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli warned Israel against testing Turkey's patience or interfering with its national security. Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş and CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu both denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's attempts to link Syrian military operations to Turkey, labeling such rhetoric as an affront to Turkish sovereignty.
Additionally, Turkish authorities have requested red notices for Benjamin Netanyahu and Afek Moskovitch on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity. Meanwhile, Syrian officials emphasized that Israel must not dictate alliances to Damascus and stated that stopping Israeli attacks remains Syria's primary priority.
