Gold prices surge to seven‑week high amid US‑Iran talks

Spot gold rose to about $4,255 per ounce in New York, its highest level in six weeks, after US‑Iran negotiations eased tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. The diplomatic progress, together with a weaker U.S. dollar (the dollar index fell to around 99.7) and lower oil prices, reduced inflation expectations and pushed the market‑priced probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September down to roughly 55‑59%.

Technical analysis showed the metal breaking above the $4,203 range top, generating a bullish signal. RBC Capital Markets kept its bullish outlook, projecting an optimistic scenario where gold could reach $5,300 per ounce. Qatar’s mediation of a temporary agreement on the strait further supported the rally. Local markets reflected the move, with Turkish spot gold trading around $4,127 and gram gold near 6,300 TL.

The rally was reinforced by central‑bank buying, continued investor demand for safe‑haven assets, and expectations that lower energy prices will keep inflation pressures in check.
