Turkish literary heritage preservation efforts underway

Efforts to preserve the homes of prominent Turkish literary figures are underway in different regions. In Burhaniye, the municipality is restoring the two-story house where poet Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı lived. The project aims to transform the historical structure into a museum that will display personal belongings and memorabilia brought from Diyarbakır, celebrating the legacy of works like ‘Haydi Abbas, Vakit Tamam’.

Meanwhile, in Heybeliada, the Ada Dostları Derneği and the Turkish Writers Union (TYS) are organizing a press statement in front of the Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar House. Although the building has undergone restoration, activists criticize the fact that it remains closed to the public. They argue that failing to open the house as a museum neglects the cultural memory of Turkish literature and the legacy of the author.
