Turkish local authorities and medical professionals address climate crisis
Medical professionals and local government leaders in Turkey are convening to discuss the escalating impacts of the climate crisis on public health and regional governance. In Adana, a panel organized by the Adana Medical Chamber and the Turkish Thoracic Society focused on the health implications of global warming. Experts emphasized that climate change is no longer just an environmental issue but an urgent public health crisis, noting that vulnerable populations—including the elderly, children, and low-income communities—face the highest risks.
Simultaneously, the Muğla Climate Dialogue process continued with a session in Gaziantep. Led by the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, the meeting aimed to increase the influence of local administrations in global climate policies. Discussions centered on multi-level climate governance, water security, forest fires, and urban resilience. Key participants included the UN Resident Coordinator in Türkiye, Dr. Babatunde Ahonsi, and various metropolitan mayors, who shared regional strategies to combat environmental challenges such as drought and biodiversity loss.
