Turkish local officials demand fairer investment and infrastructure
Local political representatives in Turkey are calling for improved public investment and infrastructure to address regional disparities and economic challenges.
In Gölbaşı, Nazım Sağlam has requested that ministries provide a neighborhood-by-neighborhood breakdown of investment resources. He emphasized that public services, including schools and health centers, should be distributed based on scientific data such as population growth and student numbers rather than political preferences. He called for transparency regarding the 2027 investment program to ensure all neighborhoods benefit equally.
In Şavşat, Provincial General Assembly Member Yaşar Gülel highlighted severe transportation difficulties caused by the region's geography and proximity to the Georgian border. Gülel noted that high transport costs and difficult road conditions negatively impact the local economy and access to healthcare. He advocated for the construction of a tunnel to improve connectivity and called for more student dormitories to combat rising rental costs and demographic shifts.
