Turkish man recovers after kidney transplant from wife

Yalçın Arslan, a 47-year-old resident of Küçükkuyu, Çanakkale, has recovered following a kidney transplant performed by his wife, Seval Arslan. The medical emergency was triggered by five years of regular, uncontrolled use of painkillers to treat severe headaches.

After presenting to the emergency room with nausea and intense headaches, Arslan was diagnosed with kidney failure. To avoid the long wait times associated with cadaveric organ donation or the necessity of dialysis, the couple opted for a living donor transplant. Following medical evaluations at the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Organ Transplant Center, Seval Arslan was deemed a suitable donor.

Prof. Dr. Cabir Alan, Director of the ÇOMÜ Organ Transplant Center, noted that long-term, uncontrolled use of painkillers can reduce blood flow to the kidneys, leading to disease. The successful surgery has since restored Arslan's health.
