Turkish martyr families and veterans reject new framework law

Families of martyrs and veterans have expressed strong opposition to a new framework law passed by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The legislation, part of a process regarding separatist opening, has been met with accusations of being an amnesty for terrorism.

Pakize Akbaba, President of the Istanbul Martyrs' Mothers Association, and İdris Tuğunmuş, General President of MİGAZİDER (Association of Combatant and Internal Security Veterans, War Disabled, and Widows), voiced their rejection of the law. Akbaba criticized the current AKP government, stating that the legislation effectively allows for the amnesty of those responsible for the deaths of soldiers, police, and teachers. She characterized the parliamentary proceedings as a betrayal of the Turkish nation and the families of those lost to terrorism.
