AK Party leaders Turgay Şahin and İsa Atay resign amid disputes
AK Party Afyonkarahisar provincial chairman Turgay Şahin announced his resignation after consulting with the party’s central leadership. In his farewell message he thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, emphasized that “positions are temporary, ideals are eternal,” and pledged to continue serving the party’s cause through other channels.
Gebeceler mayor İsa Atay also resigned from AK Party membership following accusations of an extramarital relationship. Atay described the allegations as fabricated slander and a conspiracy, said legal action had been taken, and reiterated his loyalty to President Erdoğan while stressing that he would keep working for his community despite stepping down from the party.
Both resignations were communicated through social‑media posts and underline internal tensions within the AK Party at the provincial and municipal levels.
