İzmir to receive second city hospital with 1,800 beds

Turkish Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu announced the construction of a second city hospital in İzmir, named Tınaztepe City Hospital, which will feature an 1,800-bed capacity. The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the new Dikili State Hospital.

Memişoğlu highlighted the significant transformation of the Turkish healthcare system over the last 25 years, noting that the country now possesses a capacity of over 271,000 beds and a workforce of 1.5 million health professionals. Regarding İzmir specifically, the Minister stated that the city's total bed capacity has reached 14,350, with annual examinations increasing from 13 million in 2002 to over 58 million today.

In addition to the new hospital announcement, İzmir Şehir Hastanesi, which opened in 2023 with 2,200 beds, continues to serve the region. The Minister also noted ongoing national projects, including the construction of 141 health facilities with a combined 36,000-bed capacity and the development of over 1,250 primary care health centers.

Separately, İzmir Şehir Hastanesi has implemented a new digital indoor navigation system. This technology allows patients to use smartphone cameras and QR codes to follow virtual arrows, helping them navigate the complex facility more efficiently.
