Turkish military aircraft encounter with British plane described as controlled

Reports have addressed claims regarding a potential aviation safety incident involving a Turkish Air Force A400M military transport aircraft and a British passenger plane on August 19. While Greek Cypriot and Greek media outlets characterized the encounter as a “collision danger” and a “threat to civil aviation,” local analysis suggests the flight was a controlled maneuver within the Ercan Air Traffic Control airspace.

According to reports, the Ercan Air Traffic Control Center notified the Turkish crew of the approaching British aircraft in advance. The two planes maintained a vertical separation of 1,300 feet and a horizontal separation of 2 nautical miles. Furthermore, no Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) report was filed by the British airline following the event.

Observers noted that the incident is being used to create political tension, emphasizing that Turkey’s air traffic management systems and radar networks contribute to the safe management of regional air traffic in accordance with international standards.
