Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş orders unannounced inspections of care facilities
Turkish Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, has instructed provincial directors across 81 provinces to increase unannounced inspections of care facilities for children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. During an annual evaluation meeting in Ankara, Göktaş emphasized that inspections must go beyond surface-level appearances, urging officials to examine kitchens, storage areas, and living conditions directly to ensure no neglect occurs.
Regarding social risk prevention, Göktaş reported that 69.94% of planned visits to high-risk households—specifically those identified through social risk maps for violence against women and children at risk of crime—have been completed since April. She requested that the needs identified during these visits be converted into concrete support through the Family Guide and Children are Safe systems, with follow-up visits scheduled after three months.
Additionally, the Minister highlighted the success of the AİLEM Barrier-Free Communication Center, which provides Turkish Sign Language support. The center has facilitated 335,288 calls to date, serving approximately 54,788 registered users and helping them access services in health, education, and banking.
