Turkish Ministry of National Defense updates on Libya maritime agreement and border security

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced that the Libyan House of Representatives officially approved the Memorandum of Understanding regarding the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas on October 20. The Ministry stated that this approval confirms the validity of the 2019 agreement and strengthens strategic cooperation between the two nations to protect their rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In response to statements from the European Union and Greece regarding the maritime agreement, the Ministry emphasized that the memorandum was established based on international law and principles of equity. The Ministry maintained that assessments by third parties do not negate the legal validity of the agreement.

Regarding border security, the Ministry reported that 364 individuals attempting to cross borders illegally were apprehended during the week, while 2,047 others were prevented from crossing. Since the beginning of the year, 14,207 individuals have been caught during border crossings, and 56,898 attempts have been blocked. Additionally, the Ministry noted that four PKK members surrendered during the week.
