Turkish Ministry of National Defense manages maritime rescues and regional projects
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense is managing multiple maritime and regional operations. In the Mediterranean, search and rescue efforts continue for a passenger ship that sank off the coast of Girne on August 30. The wreck was located at a depth of approximately 550 meters by the TCG Işın. Using robotic underwater vehicles (ROV) capable of reaching 3,000 meters, crews have recovered the bodies of four individuals. The death toll from the incident has reached 12, while 16 passengers remain missing. The operation involves seven ships and 11 aircraft, including the TCG Alemdar.
Separately, search and rescue operations are underway in the Marmara Sea near Silivri following a collision between two commercial vessels on September 2. This effort is being supported by four ships, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), one aircraft, and one rescue helicopter.
In regional developments, the Turkish and Syrian armed forces completed the construction of a second floating bridge over the Euphrates River on August 30 to facilitate transport between the two banks. Additionally, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense addressed claims regarding the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDG), stating that reports of foreign SDG members leaving Syria to enter Turkey are untrue. The Ministry also reported that three PKK members surrendered during the past week.
