Turkish Ministry of National Defense warns of Cyprus security risks
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MSB) has issued a statement regarding the security situation in Cyprus, asserting that it will continue to take necessary measures to protect the security, peace, and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriot people in cooperation with the TRNC authorities.
MSB Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk stated that the ongoing armament activities of the South Cyprus Administration and its military cooperation with third countries negatively impact the delicate balance and security environment on the island. He emphasized that such steps do not contribute to trust or stability. The Ministry also addressed claims regarding air defense systems in South Cyprus, stating they cannot be used as a justification to ignore the legitimate rights and security of the Turkish Cypriot people.
During a press briefing held on the TCG Anadolu, Rear Admiral Aktürk also provided details on the Denizkurdu-1/2026 exercise. Taking place between September 20 and 25 across the Black Sea, Marmara Sea, Aegean Sea, and Eastern Mediterranean, the large-scale exercise involves 100 ships, 50 air units, unmanned sea vehicles, and 14,000 personnel from various branches, including the Navy, Land Forces, Air Forces, and Coast Guard. The exercise aims to enhance operational command, decision-making in high-threat environments, and inter-service interoperability. Notably, the exercise will feature the first vertical takeoff of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from the TCG Anadolu.
