Turkish Ministry of National Education may reduce school lesson durations

The Turkish Ministry of National Education has issued a directive to all 81 provincial governorships regarding the potential reduction of lesson durations in specific schools. Under certain conditions, the standard 40-minute lesson may be reduced to 30 minutes.

This measure is intended for public primary, middle, and high schools facing specific logistical challenges. These include institutions that have temporarily moved to different buildings due to demolition, reconstruction, or earthquake reinforcement projects. Additionally, schools utilizing a dual education system (morning and afternoon shifts) due to high student density may also qualify.

The reduction is not automatic for all schools. Decisions will be made by provincial governorships in coordination with local education directorates. Factors such as school management requests, environmental and transportation conditions, and seasonal daylight hours will be considered to ensure student safety, particularly for those attending school during early morning or late evening hours.
