Turkish MP Mehmet Kasapoğlu congratulates autistic swimmer Tuna Tunca

Former Youth and Sports Minister and AK Party İzmir MP Dr. Mehmet Kasapoğlu praised Izmir‑born autistic ultra‑marathon swimmer Tuna Tunca for completing the Ocean’s 7 series. Tunca swam the Strait of Messina, the Strait of Gibraltar and the notoriously difficult North Channel, spending about 16 hours in the water. Kasapoğlu contacted the athlete by phone and posted a congratulatory message on social media, calling the feat a historic first for an autistic athlete and a source of national pride.

The swimmer’s achievement demonstrates both endurance and the ability to overcome disability barriers, drawing attention to inclusive sport and inspiring athletes worldwide.
