Turkish Municipal Councils Set August 7 Meetings in Edirne and Eskişehir

The Edirne Municipal Council will convene on Friday, 7 August, at 15:00 in the Atatürk Cultural Center and Council Meeting Hall. Chaired by Mayor Filiz Gencan, the agenda includes reviewing the previous meeting’s minutes, selecting commission members, discussing the Zero‑Waste Market project, and approving one‑off assistance for school‑age children from needy families for the 2026‑2027 academic year. Additional items cover street‑name changes, zoning plan adjustments, natural‑gas provision for the village of Sazlıdere, and the repeal of a 2008 regulation on municipal civil‑service training.

In Eskişehir, Metropolitan Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce led a critical meeting of municipal mayors on the same date to evaluate the ongoing “Yeni Parti” (New Party) process. While the participating mayors expressed a shared willingness to join the new party, they agreed to postpone a final decision until a follow‑up meeting later on 7 August, citing the need for further discussion of recent political developments. The outcome of the postponed decision is expected to be announced after the next gathering.
