Turkish municipalities debate Tuzla and Küçükçekmece budgets
Municipal councils in Turkey have reviewed upcoming budget plans for the Tuzla and Küçükçekmece districts.
Tuzla Municipality's 2027 budget, totaling 9.6 billion TL, was approved by a majority vote. Mayor Eren Ali Bingöl stated the budget was developed through participatory principles, incorporating citizen requests and neighborhood consultations. Key planned projects include the completion of the Kent Meydanı in 2028, a new road connecting TOKİ housing to the E-5 highway, and ongoing discussions regarding the extension of the Tuzla Metro and Tramway. The budget anticipates 9.2 billion TL in revenue and 400 million TL in financing through borrowing.
In Küçükçekmece, AK Party Group President Özlem Erol criticized the district's 14.86 billion TL budget, alleging a lack of investment. Erol claimed that approximately 70 percent of the budget is allocated to goods and service purchases, while direct capital expenditures for permanent investments account for only 9.9 percent. She also raised concerns regarding debt management, noting that previous social security debts led to the transfer of urban transformation reserve areas to the Social Security Institution (SGK).
