Turkey conducts major operations against municipal corruption and organized crime
Turkey has conducted several large-scale law enforcement operations targeting organized crime, corruption, and illegal betting across multiple provinces.
In Çeşme, an investigation into bribery, extortion, and forgery at the municipality led to the arrest of 10 individuals, including Deputy Mayor Emre Can Durmaz and several department heads. The probe was triggered by reports of a cleaning worker attempting to burn municipal documents.
In Bayraklı, investigations into bribery and tender rigging involving the municipality and its subsidiary, Baybel A.Ş., resulted in 15 arrests, including former Mayor Serdar Sandal. Authorities identified a public loss of approximately 20 million TL.
In Yahşihan, a corruption probe led to the arrest of 5 suspects, including Deputy Mayor Aydın Demirdirek. Authorities also seized 1,630 real estate properties registered to Deputy Mayor Satılmış Serkan Yıldıran.
Additionally, a major illegal betting investigation coordinated by the Uşak Prosecutor's Office resulted in 25 detentions across eight provinces. Authorities blocked 333,430,000 TL across 33 bank accounts and appointed trustees to four companies involved in laundering proceeds.
