Turkish municipalities hold council meetings at ancient sites and boost archaeological work

The Aydın Metropolitan Municipality approved a budget of 225,000 Turkish lira to accelerate excavations at two ancient sites: 150,000 lira for the Amyzon site in Koçarlı and 75,000 lira for the Nysa site in Sultanhisar. The funding aims to speed up research, preserve cultural heritage and increase tourism potential.

In Manisa, the metropolitan council met at the Thyateira Ancient City in Akhisar, where Mayor Besim Dutlulu highlighted the site's early‑Christian significance and its role in attracting about 35,000 tourists annually. During the session he also reported that the municipality has invested 2.348 billion lira in new vehicles, equipment and infrastructure, produced 7,500 tonnes of rot-mix and 9,655 tonnes of hot asphalt in a month, and expanded rural support programs and pest‑control operations.

Both meetings underscore a broader effort by Turkish local governments to link municipal governance with the promotion and preservation of historical sites.
