Mersin Metropolitan Municipality launches social and agricultural initiatives

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality is implementing several social and agricultural initiatives across the region. In Tarsus, the municipality organized an intelligence and strategy games festival at the Ötüken Valley Park Women and Children's Workshop. The event utilized 3D printers and recycled materials to help children develop cognitive skills, with high school volunteers assisting in the process.

In Darısekisi, a ‘Mother and Child Camp’ was held to strengthen family bonds and encourage social participation for women. The camp included nature walks and activities, while also providing a platform for local women producers to sell regional products like traditional dishes and seasonal produce.

Additionally, the municipality is diversifying agricultural production in Silifke. The Department of Agricultural Services distributed 10,000 artichoke tubers to ten producers on a 100% grant basis. This sustainable project aims to expand artichoke cultivation in areas suitable for the crop, with a plan to collect a portion of the produce in two years to support new farmers.
