Turkish municipalities implement zero waste and recycling initiatives
Municipalities in Turkey are advancing environmental sustainability through targeted zero waste and recycling projects. In Seyhan, the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate is repurposing end-of-life tires by converting them into flexible flooring materials. This initiative aims to reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and promote a circular economy.
In Samsun, the Metropolitan Municipality has expanded its Zero Waste Transformation Project to a 10-kilometer coastal stretch along Adnan Menderes Boulevard. Over a three-month period, the project successfully recovered 280 tons of waste. According to municipal data, these efforts contributed to an energy saving of approximately 940,000 kWh, prevented the use of 2,100 cubic meters of landfill space, and saved resources equivalent to approximately 2,000 trees and 19,000 cubic meters of water.
