Turkish municipalities launch food safety training and hygiene inspections
The Gebze municipal police in Kocaeli Province continued a city‑wide food‑safety education program for grocery, snack‑shop and canteen owners. The training covered hygiene rules, proper storage, expiry‑date checks, labeling and other basic practices, with the Gebze mayor attending and emphasizing the link between consumer health and business confidence.
In the neighboring province of Hatay, the metropolitan municipality’s police bureau carried out comprehensive hygiene checks at markets, butchers, bakeries, restaurants and other food‑service venues. Inspectors examined cleanliness, employee hygiene, product dating and storage conditions. Businesses complying with regulations received commendations, while those with deficiencies faced legal action under existing food‑safety law. Both municipalities said the initiatives aim to ensure safe, reliable food for residents and will be continued regularly.
