Turkish municipalities launch health initiatives for elderly citizens

Municipalities in Turkey have launched health initiatives specifically targeting elderly citizens. In Samsun, the Metropolitan Municipality has introduced a free health screening project for couples aged 65 and older who have been married for at least 41 years. The program includes comprehensive tests such as blood analysis, lung X-rays, hearing tests, and heart checks. To facilitate access, municipal teams provide transportation for eligible couples from their homes to the health center and back.

In Kahramanmaraş, the Metropolitan Municipality partnered with Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University to conduct health screenings in observance of World Elderly Day. These screenings, held at the Active Living Center, involve geriatric evaluations covering memory, emotional state, nutrition, muscle mass, sleep patterns, and daily living activities. Medical experts also provide guidance on disease prevention, nutrition, exercise programs, and methods to reduce the risk of falls in older adults.
