Turkish municipalities launch initiatives for women's empowerment
Various local municipalities and initiatives in Turkey are implementing programs focused on women's empowerment through education, psychological support, and economic participation.
In Mersin, Akdeniz Municipality hosted the 'Art of Love Workshop' led by psychologist Günay Duygu Ateş. The program aimed to increase psychological resilience and self-awareness among women through theoretical discussions and practical activities like figurine painting.
Economic support for women is being facilitated via vocational training and exhibitions. In Eskişehir, Odunpazarı Municipality organized a marketplace at Hicri Sezen Square for women to sell handmade goods such as ceramics, jewelry, and textiles. Similarly, Didim Municipality operates a sewing workshop where women learn technical skills and assist in textile repairs for the municipality.
Individual success stories highlight the impact of these programs. In Gaziantep, 26-year-old entrepreneur Elif Uysal transformed a childhood hobby into the 'Elif Uysal Atelier' brand. Supported by the Gaziantep Women Entrepreneur Support Center (KAGİDEM), her business now exports custom designs, including abayas and dresses, to international markets.
