Turkish municipalities launch social programs for retirees

Municipalities in Turkey are expanding social initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for retirees through community centers and organized activities.

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality recently organized a social outing for members of its Retiree Houses. Participants from various districts, including Tarsus, Erdemli, Yenişehir, Mezitli, and Halkkent, gathered at Kumkuyu Public Beach for a day of swimming, sunbathing, and music. The program aims to encourage social participation and combat isolation among the elderly through various activities such as health screenings, cinema, and theater.

In Edirne, the Edirne Municipality is finalizing preparations for the opening of the Vefa Edirne Retiree House in the Fatih neighborhood. The center is designed to serve as a social hub where retired citizens can interact, build friendships, and participate in cultural activities to strengthen their social ties within the city.
