Turkish municipalities open modern shelters for stray animals

The Efeler Municipality in Aydın is constructing a 26,000‑square‑metre stray‑animal shelter and rehabilitation centre, featuring climate‑controlled indoor and outdoor pads, a treatment clinic, surgery rooms, and a 14,000‑square‑metre natural habitat. Mayor Anıl Yetişkin said it will be “one of Turkey’s most beautiful shelters” and plans to add a café for visitors of all ages.

In the Osmaniye district of Kadirli, the municipal shelter houses more than 300 dogs. Mayor Mustafa Mert Olcar reported that surplus food from the local soup kitchen is being used to feed the animals, and that the shelter provides bathing, medication, and training. He emphasized that the municipality “takes four‑cornered care of our pets.”
