Turkish municipalities warn of fraud via impersonation
Municipalities in Turkey, including Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality and Selçuklu Municipality, have issued urgent warnings to the public regarding increasing fraud attempts. Scammers are impersonating municipal leaders, officials, and institutions to solicit donations and social aid through phone calls and SMS.
These fraudulent schemes target citizens' goodwill by requesting money for various social causes, such as education, nutrition, transportation, and support for families. In some instances, scammers provide specific bank account numbers or IBANs to facilitate unauthorized transfers.
Authorities emphasize that official social support programs are only announced through verified channels, such as official websites and social media accounts. Municipalities have clarified that they do not conduct individual aid campaigns through personal accounts and have initiated legal proceedings against those attempting these scams.
