Turkish national arrested in Thessaloniki refuses extradition

A 29-year-old Turkish national has been detained in Thessaloniki following an Interpol red notice issued at the request of Turkish authorities. He is accused of committing a homicide in Istanbul in August 2020 during a dispute.

The suspect, who has applied for asylum in Greece, appeared before the Extradition Department of the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal. He has formally stated that he does not consent to his extradition to Turkey. The competent Council of Appeal will decide on the Turkish request in the coming period, and the individual will remain in custody until a decision is reached.
