Turkish officials discuss agricultural financing, development projects
Member of parliament Ejder Açıkkapı visited the Traktörcüler Site in Elazığ, hearing traders’ concerns over limited access to finance, high interest rates, rising costs, spare‑part prices and reduced purchasing power of farmers. He reaffirmed the sector’s strategic role for agriculture, industry, exports and employment, and noted that existing support mechanisms – such as Treasury‑backed loans through Ziraat Bank and the Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, as well as grant programmes under the Rural Development Investment Support Programme – would continue to be strengthened.
Governor Aydın Baruş inspected the Erzurum Trade and Commerce Chamber’s portfolio of strategic projects, which includes a dairy cold‑chain system, licensed storage facilities, an agribusiness‑focused organized industrial zone, a joint marketing agency, geographic‑indication applications, a gastronomy academy, a sugar‑industry cluster, a small‑industry site, bee‑village initiatives, organic pasture schemes, a model village, purple‑potato R&D, a high‑altitude equine valley, climate‑tourism corridors, and detailed flavor and vegetation maps. He highlighted the projects’ expected contributions to regional economic growth, employment, and the competitiveness of Erzurum’s agricultural products.
