Turkish opposition leaders call for unity and political reform

Opposition leaders in Turkey are calling for increased unity and a broader struggle against the current political regime.

Tuncer Bakırhan, Co-Chair of the DEM Party, emphasized the necessity of a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue, stating it is a matter that affects the entirety of Turkey. He criticized the current opposition for being too stagnant within their own political circles and called for a more active stance against undemocratic practices. Bakırhan also addressed a fund crisis, demanding accountability and transparent judicial processes to address financial irregularities.

In Eskişehir, the 'United Opposition' forum brought together various political figures, including Yeni Parti Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın. Günaydın argued that the political struggle is not merely against a single individual but against the prevailing regime. He stressed the importance of different opposition factions finding common ground and urged various social groups—including youth, women, and workers—to become more actively involved in shaping political parties and the future of the country.
