Turkish opposition leaders criticize energy costs and fund scandal
Opposition leaders in Turkey are raising alarms over the country's economic situation, specifically regarding energy costs and recent financial scandals. Serkan Sarı, Deputy Group Chairman of the CHP, stated that Turkey leads in heating expenses and reported that approximately 19.5 percent of households are unable to afford to heat their homes.
Sarı noted that Turkey's annual energy inflation stands at 46.1 percent, significantly higher than the OECD average of 13.6 percent. He criticized the government's economic measures, suggesting that rising costs for natural gas, coal, and wood are placing immense pressure on retirees, farmers, and workers.
DEVA Party Leader Ali Babacan also addressed the ongoing investigation into a major fund fraud scandal. He questioned how regulatory bodies failed to detect multi-billion dollar irregularities while maintaining strict oversight on small-scale individual taxpayers. Babacan called for the removal of leadership within oversight institutions, including the Capital Markets Board, to ensure a fair and legal resolution to the crisis.
