Turkish Parliament investigates alleged kidnapping of Hacettepe University student

DEM Party Istanbul MP Çiçek Otlu has submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Turkish Ministry of Interior regarding the alleged kidnapping and intimidation of Hasan Basri Usta, a student at Hacettepe University and member of the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF).

According to the inquiry, the incident occurred on October 15, 2026, in Ankara. Usta claims that individuals identifying themselves as police officers intercepted him in the Dikimevi district, forced him into a black jeep, and transported him to a mountainous area in the Mamak district. He alleges he was detained for approximately three hours, subjected to physical and psychological violence, and pressured to abandon his political activities.

MP Otlu has requested a comprehensive investigation into the role of public officials, an examination of camera footage, and measures to ensure Usta’s safety, citing concerns regarding freedom of expression and the prohibition of torture.
