Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş meets Finnish Parliament President in Helsinki

Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş conducted an official visit to Helsinki, where he met Finnish Parliament President Jussi Halla‑Aho. After a welcome ceremony, the two leaders signed the parliamentary honor register in the State Hall and toured the General Assembly Chamber.

During a bilateral committee meeting, Kurtulmuş highlighted that Finland’s 2023 NATO accession marks a new phase in Turkey‑Finland ties. He invited Halla‑Aho to the NATO Parliamentary Summit scheduled for 28‑29 June 2026 in Istanbul and noted Turkey’s role as host of the NATO Leaders Summit on 7‑8 July 2026. Both officials stressed the importance of NATO’s collective security and Europe’s stability.

Kurtulmuş also thanked Finland for its support of Turkey’s EU accession ambitions and addressed broader regional issues, including the Russia‑Ukraine war, Middle‑East conflicts and the humanitarian situation in Palestine. He reiterated Turkey’s willingness to mediate in conflict zones and to cooperate with Finland on democratic and peace‑building initiatives.
