TBMM to begin new legislative year on October 1

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) is set to begin its 5th legislative year of the 28th term on October 1. Following a 50-day recess, the assembly will hold a special opening session, with full legislative work scheduled to commence on October 6.

Key items on the agenda include a potential parliamentary inquiry into an investment fund crisis. Opposition members have called for a research commission to investigate losses related to liquidated investment funds. Additionally, the Turkish Red Crescent Law proposal will be among the first to be discussed, aiming to define the organization's duties, rights, and exemptions, including provisions for direct procurement during emergencies.

Other significant legislative topics include the 13th Judicial Package, which may address alimony, divorce proceedings, and social media identity verification. The assembly will also consider regulations for foreign digital accommodation platforms, such as Booking.com, requiring them to appoint local representatives and obtain permits. Further discussions are expected regarding smoking bans in public areas and the establishment of a monitoring commission for the “Terror-free Turkey” process.
