Turkish police arrest suspects in Istanbul extortion shooting and Samsun burglary

Police in Istanbul carried out a coordinated raid in the districts of Küçükçekmece, Bakırköy and Bahçelievler, arresting five men accused of shooting businesses to collect protection money. The operation, overseen by the Smallçekmece Public Prosecutor's Office, yielded an unregistered pistol, numerous cartridges and a knife. Two of the detainees, a 16‑year‑old and a 17‑year‑old, were transferred to the child branch of the police, while the remaining three were taken for questioning.

In Vezirköprü, Samsun, authorities detained two men suspected of breaking into a home and stealing jewelry, cash and licensed firearms. The theft involved roughly 35,000 TL of precious items, 4,000 TL in cash and two guns. During searches, investigators recovered additional stolen assets valued at about 650,000 TL and US$100 in cash. The suspects, identified as G.Y., 31, and B.Y., 20, were remanded in custody and sent to prison pending further proceedings.
