Turkish police bust online fraud networks in Gaziantep and Ankara

In Gaziantep, the provincial gendarmerie announced the capture of 16 suspects involved in an online fraud scheme that used fake sales listings and false debt‑collection offers to extort citizens of a total of 158,674 TL. The coordinated raids seized numerous digital devices and other evidence, and the detainees were handed over to the prosecutor’s office for legal proceedings.

In Ankara, a special cyber‑crime unit located and arrested two fugitives who were already serving long prison sentences for extensive cyber‑fraud offenses. One suspect faced 48 arrest warrants and a sentence of 68 years 6 months, while the other had 22 warrants and a sentence of 43 years 4 months 22 days. The operation uncovered elaborate escape mechanisms installed in their hideouts before the suspects were taken into custody and transferred to prison.
