Turkish police detain suspects in two telephone fraud scams
In Bursa, a 73‑year‑old woman was deceived by a caller who posed as her nephew and asked her to hand over gold jewelry. Security‑camera footage helped police identify the two perpetrators, M.S.P. (42) and M.P. (36). Both were arrested in coordinated raids in Istanbul and Bursa, transferred to Bursa authorities, and subsequently sentenced to prison.
A separate case aired on the television program *Müge Anlı ile Tatlı Sert*, where 57‑year‑old disabled Ramazan Yıldız claimed a younger lover swindled him of gold worth 800,000 TL with a marriage promise. Officials traced the fraud to Azerbaijani citizen M.H., who was caught in Erzurum while trying to flee abroad, and accomplice K.T., arrested in Lapseki, Çanakkale. Both suspects were detained and later sentenced. The governor’s office warned, “Suç ve Suçlularla Mücadelemiz Kararlılıkla Sürdürülmektedir!”
